SSD and ProDrummer are preset ponies for me - for when I can't be asked to click around much, and know that I'm a preset away from basically what I'm looking for. I kind of go in cycles where I get frustrated trying to use it and then don't pull it up for a while and then put it in after a month or so and go 'wait, these are great!,' use it whenever I can for a little while, get frustrated, etc.įor me personally, I tend to use each drum sampler for a different kind of workflow. Ultimately, I know a few presets that work for me and then I use them when I need them - and they sound great in that context. In terms of tweaking default sounds once you're close, it's also tricky - there are a lot of menus but without really knowing what it is that you're changing - I hate to change much around because I have to start clicking around a lot just to know what processing is already going on.

So, looking for the 'right sound' isn't an enjoyable process using it for me. The loading times take a while, and just going off of the descriptions it's tough to tell what you're going to get exactly - sometimes you think that you're going to get a heavily processed one and it's actually pretty dry and vice versa. It's the process that I find most awkward in ProDrummer, and why I hardly use it. When I've found the right kit for what I'm looking for and I've got it programmed right, there isn't much out there that 'sounds' better. I like a lot about ProDrummer - the actual samples are very, very good, with tight samples that are really tight but without sacrificing thickness, and looser samples that still have strong attack. Since you're looking for opinions, I'll share. Or if I want a '70's really unprocessed sound, I still occasionally use the Ocean Way Drums. Or if I am really in a hurry I will use Logic's Drummer to create the track. So when I am not under the gun or I know exactly which kit I want, i will choose ProDrummer, because I think it just sounds great, unless I want a Ringo kit or sweeping brushes, which is when I choose Addictive Drums 2. (BTW, I don't yet have Mike Greene's RealiDrums but for that task it looks amazingly great.) There are lots of kits and kit pieces and auditioning them and then changing them is a somewhat time consuming process. You are going to want to run it from an SSD.Ģ. And it has lots of great grooves and you can build the arrangement within the plug-in oif you choose. I think ProDrummer is the most, for want of a better term, "hi-fi" library I have used.

I don't have all of those but I have Addictive Drums 2 (my previous go to) the old Oceanway Drums, N.I.'s Studio Drummer, Stylus RMX, and of course the Logic drum kits, which are not btw chopped liver.
